SELFIE/ MAIN TITLES

Design for Passion Pictures NY

There are many reasons why “Selfie” was one of my favorite projects. Besides for the super talented all-lady team (!), I was so fortunate to be given more than the usual creative freedom to explore designs for the title sequence of this modern-day “My Fair Lady”: a narcissistic social media addict who undertakes a reluctant journey to discover the value of genuine friendship. The mixed media “analog” style was a refreshing break from the glossy aesthetic expected of most social-media related motion graphics projects. By creating cheeky vignettes mixing historical photographs of “selfies”, a hand drawn network, and collaged elements that typically represent natural beauty (flowers and butterflies, for example) we were able to depict the potentially cliché theme of shallow online personas vs. true human connection in a lighthearted and cheerful way. Although the show itself was short lived, the title sequence still makes me smile.
